Qualifications Framework The Netherlands

The European qualification framework for the European Higher Education Area has been drawn up in order to enable inter-comparison of the national frameworks. The national qualification frameworks (NQFs) set out the degrees and diplomas that may be earned within the higher education system of the respective countries. The Dutch higher education qualification framework has been declared compatible with the over-arching European qualification framework (see Frameworks/documents).

Just like the European framework, the higher education qualifications in the Netherlands cover three levels:

  1. Bachelor's degree
    Academic orientation
    Level in EQF: level 6
    Credit range: 180 ECTS
    Professional orientation
Level in EHEA Qualifications Framework: first cycle
    Level in EQF: level 6
    Credit range: 240 ECTS
  2. Master's degree
    Master's programme (professional/academic orientation)
Level in EHEA Qualifications Framework: second cycle
    Level in EQF: level 7
    Credit range: minimum 60 ECTS
  3. Doctoral degree
    Doctoral studies
Level in EHEA Qualifications Framework: third cycle
    Level in EQF: level 8
Credit range: no credit range specified (+/- 4 years)

The certifications of the Dutch qualifications framework have been published on the Bologna internet site
