In the Netherlands, NVAO assesses the internal quality assurance pursued by universities (research universities and universities of applied sciences), and the quality of the programmes they provide.
The Minister of Education, Culture and Science has conducted discussions with NVAO, the Education Inspectorate, institutions, students, and other stakeholders about the future accreditation system. A steering group, in which NVAO was also represented, has developed recommendations for optimising the current system and conducting pilots for the accreditation of institutions.
The recommendations of the steering group have been incorporated in the Minister’s Strategic Agenda for Higher Education, which was published in July 2015. In 2016, the House of Representatives discusses the proposals and the new assessment framework.
